Back in business.

I know, I have disappeared for a while but I am back...hopefully for good! But let's not get carried away...

I was busy this week making five cards. A customer requested for three birthday cards for her three granddaughters. She is a repeat customer. She placed the same order last year and it was really flattering that she asked again.

The other customer requested for a wedding card and a baptismal card. I only had to create one card because she chose one of the wedding cards I already made. Score. However, she asked if I could add a personal message which was no problem at all.

Though it was a bit of a rush to make them this week, I forgot how much I enjoy making cards - especially customized cards. Hopefully I won't disappear again...if I have too much orders on the go, well then, that's a very good excuse :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Yesterday, my co-worker requested to see my Valentine cards. I panicked a little because I had only made four designs and wanted to give her a bigger selection. So last night, I spent a few hours making a few and convinced my husband to take photos of the cards in between watching his favourite shows.

I can't remember how many I made in total but it was enough for her to choose from.

I brought them today and she found one she liked! And guess what? Same as seven other people!!

Yay!

~The customer wanted a birthday card for one of her close friends. She wanted a feminine card and specifically asked for tulips. You can't really tell by the photo, but this is an extra large card. And the green is a bit more softer. A very sweet card for a sweet lady. The customer was very pleased.

~The customer wanted a birthday card for her brother who is very 'outdoors-y'. He loves to go hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting, etc. When I found these stickers, I thought they were perfect! And great find on the moose! It was a nice touch especially since she mentioned it was a running joke between them. This card took me awhile to put together because I was worried about it looking like a postcard as opposed to a birthday card. But when I gave it to her, her instant reaction told me I was being too hard on myself. She loved it!!

~My wonderful sister-in-law asked me to make a special birthday card for her fiance. I gave her some ideas and she liked them all. I decided to go with a rock theme. Not only is he a handyman (see Card No. 113), but a rock star as well!!! It took me awhile to put this together; it was like working a puzzle! But definitely worth my time. I was really happy with what I came up with and most importantly, she was happy and he was happy. The end.

~I made this card for my sister-in-law's fiance. We celebrated at their new home last August - a birthday bash/housewarming event! I thought this card was appropriate since he is one of the best handyman I know... well, next to my husband of course :) The card was well received especially since we enclosed a H.ome D.epot giftcard.

Good for the heart.

I made a few cards over the weekend. One of them - a birthday card for my friend's son who turned one! The little guy was a bit too young to let me know his thoughts but his mom and the guests really liked it.

My friend Courtnay who was at the party really liked the card and asked me to send her my link - fun, fun, fun! She started a blog last year and she's all about crafting like me; she made these adorable felt puppets to go along with the book she bought for our friend's little boy. A few years ago, I bought a lot of felt fabric, needles and thread in hopes of being a felt queen but really never accomplished anything. I think I made a stack of pancakes with strawberries but that was it. Cardmaking is more my thing and I'm actually glad...I don't want to compete against Courtnay's creations! They are too cute!

Anyhoodle...

I made a handful of wedding cards for coworker to choose from. She was really impressed with the Christmas cards I made (in fact, she kept them instead of giving them away) and she requested for a wedding inspired card for her brother in Germany.

I gave her the cards this morning and I'm just waiting to hear back from her. I really hope she will like at least one of them. I feel a little pressured because she is a graphics designer and has an eye for detail. I think that is why I was extremely flattered when she loved, LOVED my Christmas cards.

I wanted to post pictures of the cards but unfortunately, something is wrong with my personal computer. Cry, cry. Hopefully Brent (hubby) will be able to fix it this week so I can showcase my cards.

Oh...still thinking of renaming my brand.

But I love onions - literally. And I thought of this slogan this morning:

Extraonions. They are good for the heart!

Thursday 12 January 2012

Well, hello there!

I am here... still making cards! I made a few cards for customers/friends/family that I have yet to post and a whopping 150 Christmas cards I made for the holidays!

I doubt that I will post all of them or even any of them. Too much work!

Hmm...but maybe I can select a few to showcase what I have made.

I haven't done anything too crazy with my card business. But I have some plans this year.

I am thinking of possibly registering for this years' Christmas fair to sell my cards. I sold some over the holidays but not as much as I was hoping. You see... I was invited to take part in a local Christmas fair but declined because I wanted my coworkers to have a huge selection to choose from. Unfortunately, our company laid off about 40 people and most of them were my customers! By then, it was too late to register for the fair... AND I was told that my cards would have done great especially at the price of $4 each or Buy 3 for $10. I know it's not that cheap but hey, they are handmade and original! There are some people who would pay $$$ for cards and darn it, they were either laid off or at the fair! Ha.

By the way, joking aside... it was really sad when the company laid off my friends, including my mom! Mom is doing great though. The company was very generous and gave everybody a great package but still, working here is not the same. I don't know what's going to happen with me. I'm still here but the future is unknown. I can't really do anything about it but just do my best. I don't want to find another job because I love what I am doing... but when the time comes, I will be okay.

And I want to continue working on my cards. It's like therapy. And it makes me happy!

Anyway... moving along.

I definitely need to market my cards. Ideally, I would like to start a website just so it will be easier for people to view the cards or but I need to come up with a brand and stick to it. I originally named my brand 'extra onions' but I don't think it's catchy enough and frankly, I grew tired of it. I would also like to buy a stamp with my logo so that I can start personalizing my cards... but that means I have to come up with a name. I have a few ideas but I want to step back and look at them another time before making the final decision.

I would like to start posting my cards again. I have a couple of orders on the go.. a wedding card and a baby card so you will see them soon!
